With no students on campus because of the COVID-19 pandemic and state shelter in order, the Kings Canyon Unified School District is moving forward with construc- tion work at Reedley High School. The construction proj- ects were scheduled for during the summer break, but with the early closure of the campus work began early.

MVT Staff Report
The Fresno County Community Devel- opment Division an- nounced on April 13 an optional two-month payment break for Fresno County Af- fordable Housing Pro- gram loan borrowers impacted by financial hardships resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to coun- ty officials, the pay- ment break will allow borrowers the option to stop their monthly payments in May and June of this year with- out penalty or late fees. The break ap- plies to 128 AFP loans in the county that have mandatory monthly payments that total approximately $25,000 in the program each month.
Borrowers eligible for the payment break
have the option to continue making pay- ments, with full or par- tial payments applied to their loan balances.
“This payment break will not cure any current loan defaults, including delinquent payments accrued prior to the declared ‘state of emergency’,” said County of Fresno Public Information Officer Jordan Scott. “However, late fees will be waived, missed payments will not be reported as delinquent and enforcement ac- tivity will be paused during the two-month period.”
The Community Development Division has sent notification of the payment break to all eligible borrow- ers. For questions and more information, con- tact the Fresno County Community Develop- ment at (559) 600-4292.
COVID-19 Continued from page A1
with seven deaths, and 126 people have recovered (either cleared by laboratory or non- lab methods), according to the Fresno County Department of Public Health website.
In the immediate region, 17 people have tested positive in Sanger and its immediate sur- rounding area to the northeast
while Parlier also now has 17 positive tests. Reedley is at 12 cases while Orange Cove has six cases. To the west, Selma has 16 cases while Kingsburg is at 10 cases and Fowler has four or fewer.
In Tulare County, there were 436 positive cases as of 10 a.m. April 21, including 22 deaths. More than 40 percent of the total cases had been at two nursing facilities in the
county; in Visalia and Lindsay. A total of 45 cases are listed in the seven-zip code region that includes Dinuba, Cutler-Orosi and rural areas south of Reedley and east of Orange Cove. Unlike the Fresno County website which lists five or more cases found in each community, Tulare County's map is more gener- alized. There are 248 cases in Visalia, 62 in the Porterville
region and 49 in the zone that includes Tulare.
In the county, 280 of the to- tal cases are people older than 40 years of age; 159 of them ages 65 and older. Nearly 292 people had been infected by person-to-person contact and 62 of the patients had recov- ered.
California enters its sixth week of a shelter in place edict by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
In both the state and nation- ally, the virus and its drastic physical/social distancing have led to the closure of schools to direct instruction and the closures of business- es. Cases have continued to steadily increase in the state, but given its population Cali- fornia has managed to keep its percentage of cases down compared to other hot spots nationally and internationally.
