There are two ways to tell the coming hour. If we want to

express 2: 45 for example:

1. Use the coming hour and the minutes to that hour

Son las tres menos cuarto.

2. Use the current hour and the minutes past

Son las dos y cuarenta y cinco

Both of these times indicate

that it’s 15 minutes to 3.
