The notes below explain two main uses of estar.
a. To refer to a state or condition
(someone's health, emotional or physical state)
¿Cómo estás (tú)/está (usted)? How are you?
Estoy bien, gracias. I'm fine, thank you.
b. To express location and distance
El elevador I ascensor está allí. The lift is there.
Está a dos cuadras de aquí. It is two blocks from here.
