The problem The dark, narrow streets of Bhagwanpura, North Delhi, form a labyrinthine network which people had to navigate everyday, and often in complete darkness. This added to the dangers of human predators and potholes that dotted the area, making the streets particularly unsafe for young girls using the community toilet. In addition to these risks was the risk of fire and electrocution, as people had low or no risk perception of the hazards caused by their actions and would therefore use the overhead electrical wires as clotheslines for drying wet clothes. Before Save the Children came, we had no idea about what a disaster even is. – Chanchal The action Force were allotted to the first-aid group and were trained on minor basic emergency care.
