TOLL STADIUM, WHANGAREI; CROWD: 19,951
Neither side enjoyed much preparation time and instead relied on instinct. And for the youthful Barbarians side made up of players in the Mitre 10 Cup and Mitre 10 Heartland Championship, this almost led to a famous win. A Toll Stadium packed with 20,000 vocal fans witnessed what was almost an upset, as the Lions trailed 7-3 to a Sam Anderson-Heather try and Bryn Gatland (son of Warren) penalty for a good chunk of the game. Anthony Watson pulled the Lions back, with penalties doing the rest. Barbarians Try: Anderson-Heather Con: Gatland
