FMG STADIUM WAIKATO, HAMILTON
CROWD: 29,974
The British & Irish Lions nally had a midweek win, and a ne one at that – just in time for the rst Test. With so many Lions out to prove a point a er defeats against the Blues and Highlanders, the tourists recorded a resounding victory against a youthful and resolute Chiefs. Fittingly, it was a Chief of the Exeter variety who did the most damage against the hosts. Outside back Jack Nowell (pictured) regularly le his wing in search of an opportunity – and the tactic reaped rewards, as he scored in both halves,
the second coming from a piece of brilliant back play by Elliot Daly. The two English backs weren’t the only ones
to make their mark. CJ Stander made carry a er carry, Dan Biggar showed that the Lions don’t lack for quality
at No 10 and Rory Best led by example as Captain. Although the Lions stretched their 13-6 half-time lead considerably a er the break, it wasn’t for lack of trying on the hosts’ part. They gave everything and could even have snatched a score of their own were it not for the solid defensive work of the Lions.
