The Cateran Yomp is a 54 Mile ‘Yomp’ over the Cairngorm Mountains. The aim is to complete the task within 24 hours, battling tough terrain and changeable weather conditions. The event is run by ABF The Soldiers Charity and is one of their biggest fundraising events of the year. This year there were over 1000 competitors from 100+ teams and, importantly, over £300,000 was raised by a record number of competitors.
In early June, five members of D Company (‘The Dogs’) travelled up to Scotland to take part in the event. Organised by Rfn Wilson and led by 2Lt Rye, the Dogs raised close to £2,500 for ABF the Soldiers Charity. The team got round in a time of 20 hours, taking in the stunning views that the Scottish Highlands offer and enjoying the company of not only each other, but fellow ‘Yompers.’

all those that took part should be proud of their efforts
Whilst we narrowly missed out on our self-proposed target of 18 hours, all those that took part should be proud of their efforts. Highlighting the importance of extra-curricular activities within Army life, by finding new experiences and acting as a platform to build team cohesion, something we pride ourselves on.
The team is determined to re-show next year, to reach our target and beat this years’ fundraising attempt.

      RIFLES REGIMENTAL SHOOTING TEAM
It has been another astonishingly successful season for The Rifles’ Regimental Shooting Team. A smaller, more competition-
focused team has continued to set the standard for the Regiment’s marksmanship ability. Victory at the 20 Bde and 3 Div Operational Shooting Competitions (OSC’s) demonstrated the team’s ability to perform at the highest standard, while also building strength and depth with the team’s newest members.
A two-week training package in Cyprus was a welcome change of scenery to the usual ranges of Bulford and Pirbright. A clean sweep of first, second, and third at the 3 Div Sniper Competition set the team in good stead ahead of the Army OSC, commonly known as
Bisley, where the team placed 3rd, with all
the team making the Army Top 100. Special mention goes to Cpl Stanton who placed 2nd, a superb achievement. From this success, six members of the Regimental Shooting Team have been selected to compete on behalf of the British Army Competition Shooting Team (BACST) and will look forward to international shooting competitions in America, Australia, and Canada. The team continue to be a Regimental asset and are available to assist in coaching and instruction to both Regulars and Reservists alike.
