D Company, formerly RIFLES Coy, have been at the forefront of delivering trial courses. They ran a 10-week trial which would be implemented when Op MOBLISE is enforced. The concept is to condense basic training by two weeks, increasing the quantity of trained Riflemen arriving to the Field Army, without impacting on the output standard. D Company is also delivering the Common Military Syllabus Future Soldier (CMS FS) which is a 13-week pilot course focussed
on a blended learning experience for the recruits. CMS FS will be rolled out fully when ITC becomes Soldier Academy North and is going to standardise Basic Training across Catterick and Pirbright. It gives the recruits more time in the field to hone their fieldcraft and have a better foundation to become Chosen Men.
The Riflemen posted to Catterick have
been a credit to the Regiment, with success on external and career courses. We must congratulate Sjt Anker on being selected to instruct at RMAS. Furthermore, we have had
a number of Corporals pass PSBC ready for their next role as Platoon Serjeants. Finally, a massive congratulations to a Rifleman who has recently passed UKSF selection. There have been countless external courses that Riflemen have attended, such as JWIC and RAC which would be few and far between at RD. This is one of the many benefits of a posting
to ITC.
Riflemen are known for their athletic prowess and competitive spirit, which leads to success in a wide variety of sport. There have been many Riflemen competing at various levels of sport from unit competitions up to Army level. Lt Serdet (3 RIFLES) was chosen
to be the Captain of Army Alpine Skiing, with
Lt Scarsi (2 RIFLES) also on the team, both Platoon Commanders at ITC. Major Youngs
(2 RIFLES) has also been running Infantry Mountain Biking Enduro Racing, which has had a successful year. The access to sports at ITC is second to none, and I would recommend a posting here for any budding athletes. Major Dave Youngs
