Armed Forces Day Events in Pontefract and Doncaster
Association members and Minden
House Buglers represented The Rifles, the Forming and the Antecedent Regiments at the Armed Forces Day events in Pontefract and Doncaster.
In the parade of

The Rifles and Light
Infantry Standards
were carried by the
two ‘Roberts. Rob Smith a former Light Infantry Territorial serviceman carried The Rifles Association Standard, while another Rob, a former Royal Green Jacket and a member
of Minden House Bugles, carried the Light Infantry Standard.
During Doncaster Armed Forces Day Y Coy 8 RIFLES, our Association with Minden House Bugles, and a ‘Jackal’ with crew from 3 RIFLES appeared in Elmfield Park as well as in the parade around Doncaster as the Coldstream Guards exercised their Freedom of the City.
Local authority name a street in memory of Rifleman Luke Farmer
In memory of Rfn Luke Farmer, Wakefield Metropolitan District Council and Wakefield District Housing agreed to name a street in his honour in his hometown of Upton. Riflemen from 3 RIFLES who served with Luke travelled from Edinburgh for the naming ceremony. They were joined by RIFLES Colonel West Yorkshire, Lt Col (Retd) Robin Smith, who thanked Wakefield District Housing, and all concerned with approving the naming of the way in memory of Luke. In addition, adjacent properties have been named RIFLES House, Dreghorn House, Corporals House, Guard House and Poppey House, reflecting The Rifles and veteran connection.
The Rifleman’s Association Standard was brought to the carry as Minden House Buglers sounded Rifles Assembly as the ribbon was cut to open Luke Farmer Way.
