down for a restful night. That night we discovered that Pte Theobald not only falls asleep to music that would be more appropriate for a night club he also grinds his teeth like someone at a rave. Despite this morale was high on the morning of the race, helped out with the Buxton’s crispy bacon baps.
After the assembly and reassembly, assembly and reassembly, assembly and reassembly for our equipment the team decided to take 60kg. Pte Cassel then spotted the weakness of this as there were several infantry units whose stretchers were only 40kg. It was then decided to reassemble the stretcher one last time to 45kg. A couple of miles into the race the team came to a unanimous agreement that it was the best decision in the history of stretcher races.
The terrain covered five hills: North Hill, Worcestershire Beacon, Summer Hill, Perseverance Hill and Pinnacle Hill. These hills can certainly be described as ‘cheeky’ but were counter balanced by the beautiful views of the countryside.
With sore hands, blistered feet and smiles on their faces, all the teams were cheered across the finish line and rewarded with a Mars bar. The sense of achievement and comradeship between the units created an atmosphere of celebration. Everyone
united by what we had done and
why we had done it. So far we have
raised over three hundred pounds for QARANC the Royal British Legion. DMG (N) look DMG North

 Congratulations to Mary Read
Mary Read is one of the oldest serving members of the Welsh Branch and was Chairman for many years being the lynch pin in organising Coffee mornings and sales which kept the branch financially alive for many years.
During her career she worked at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary where she became very attached to a painting of ‘Mametz Ward’ by the artist Margaret Lindsay Williams. When the hospital closed Mary the painting, which now hangs
was instrumental in saving in HQ AMS Camberley.
Mary fought long and hard to save the painting. Without her unstinting effort this painting would have been beyond renovation by now and we would not have been able to enjoy it in HQ AMS at Camberley.
Throughout her life in the QARANC Mary has been an example to all, in her support of the QARANC and the Association and in her endeavours to keep the Welsh
Branch viable and successful.
Congratulations Mary from all your many friends.

It is with deep regret that we have to inform you that Mary Read sadly passed away on 10 August 2015. Further information will be published in the 2016 Spring Edition of the Gazette
Unfortunately, Mary is in hospital at the moment and was surprised and overcome when Col Sue Bush visited the hospital on July 22nd and presented her with the Association Award for all her hard work for the Association. She was also given a small framed photograph of the painting, which is sitting on her bedside locker.
