One hundred years ago at 11.00am on Monday 11th November 1918, the Armistice came into force, the guns stopped on the Western Front and, after four years the Great War had finally come to an end.
In Thrapston, the community began the process of deciding how to commemorate the men who had died. There was agreement that a memorial would be in St
James’ Church and plans were drawn and circulated around the town in the form of
a leaflet. The leaflet shown was completed by Mr Templeman, Huntingdon Road who lost a son during the War, Richard Edis Templeman.
The Church memorial was dedicated
on Friday 30th January 1920 in the Parish Church at a service led by the Archdeacon
