forefront of discussion. From surviving parachuting near misses to crewing a sailing ship in treacherous conditions, the guest speakers’ presentations brought great context to the application of ALeRT, proving it to be a keystone in the development opportunities that AT offers.
Outside of delivery, the Team has taken every opportunity to participate in regional and Corps sports where commitments have allowed. In June 23, SSgt (SSI) ‘Kane’ Mortimer, SSgt (SSI) ‘Ross’ Penver, and Sgt (SI) ‘Josh’ Bullard took on the gruelling challenge of completing the 21 original Girls (CrossFit workouts) consecutively for 12 hours. The event was a huge success and a phenomenal effort from the ATIs, raising a total of £2000 in support of several local charities.
In the staff development space, SSgt (SSI) ‘Kane’ Mortimer and Sgt (SI) ‘Rich’ Murgatroyd volunteered to organise a Battlefield Study (BFS) for members of the AATG to the Dolomites (Ex NORTHERN ALPINI). The BFS was centred around the Alpini’s defence of Northern Italy during WW1 and included many routes used during the campaign. The BFS proved to be a great setting for broadening military knowledge whilst maintaining a link to the mountainous terrain the ATI’s call home. With the added value of alpine klettersteig/

via ferrata at altitudes of 3000m, the BFS proved to be a bit more challenging than a conventional BFS. Educational and rewarding, all participants walked away with a profound respect for the Soldiers who operated in such a physical landscape with limited equipment.
In summary, Team Halton has enjoyed a very busy but productive year and looks forward to the challenges of 2024. With planning well underway for another round of concentrations, courses and expeditions, 24/25 looks set to be fruitful. Sadly, the new training year will also see the departure of some of the members who laid the foundation for the Wing’s prosperous future; however, this change will make way for new instructors, new opportunities, and new visions for progression - Stand by...
