Taking grasp of 3 Medical Regiment (3 Med Regt) in Sep 23, a unit that had already begun to prepare for the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) due to commence in Jan 24, I quickly realised that the reality of working with this unit was far from simple, despite the excellent groundwork laid by my predecessor SSgt (SSI) “Duncs” Duncan. Inheriting a well-prepared team of AAPTIs, I felt equipped for the challenges ahead of my long-awaited return to North Yorkshire.
As over six months have flown by, 3 Med Regt finds itself fully engaged in the demanding rhythm of the VJTF until at least June 25. Despite the intensity of VJTF and numerous exercises with tight turnarounds, such as Ex BRILLIANT JUMP and Ex POLISH DRAGON as well as Ex WESSEX STORM, the unit’s personnel have managed to find moments for ski expeditions and participation in various sports.
The unit’s AAPTIs have been instrumental, tirelessly promoting and organising sports within the unit, contributing valuable points towards the Army Sports Trophy. Notable achievements include LCpl “Goose” Goose’s performance in British Army Warrior Fitness (BAWF), Sgt “Willy” Wilson leading novice climbers to a commendable 2nd place finish at the Army North Sports Championships and the success of Sgt Jordan Keeling and

Balancing the unit’s readiness whilst providing Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor (ERI) capability has been my biggest challenge, requiring simultaneous roles as ERI and RAPTCI has proven to be more difficult than it seems. Despite the demanding schedule, I recently represented the RAPTC at the Army Sports Climbing Championships, achieving a respectable position.

after so many months of strenuous activity. The PTIs are gearing up for a VJTF specific CO’s Competition, as well as preparing for the Inaugural 3 Medical Regiment Inter Squadron Boxing Competition to be held here at Gaza Barracks in Nov 24. While much work lies ahead in the North, it has been a fulfilling and enjoyable year, and I am committed to building upon the successes achieved thus far.
