As I reflect on what has been a busy but exciting year at 21 Signal Regiment (EW), the Unit has undergone some fantastic achievements. I really wanted to tackle the infrastructure of the gymnasium as the facility required some attention and care. After gathering feedback from the soldiers, the gymnasium underwent a complete renovation conducted by ServiceSport and Indigo Fitness. Now, the Regiment boasts a new training rig, rubber matting, astroturf flooring and upgraded equipment to enhance physical development.
21 Signal Regiment continues to showcase itscommitmenttophysicalfitnessand excellence in sports. With a diverse range of talented individuals, the regiment actively participates in various sporting events, both internally and externally. From Rugby and Football to Athletics, Cycling and Tug of War, members of the regiment consistently demonstrate their skills and dedication to the Unit through their achievements on the field.

On the sporting front, the Regiment has actively participated in the Commanding Officer’s Cup Competition, engaging in a series of Inter-Squadron events covering all aspects of the components of fitness. These events have proven to be both challenging and enjoyable for all participants. Another remarkable accomplishment included the Lanyard Trophy participation, securing 7th place overall, along with the completion of Ex Trailwalker. Our team’s impressive 16th place finish out of 251 teams, completing the challenging 100km course in under 14 hours, stands as a fantastic achievement.
Adventurous Training is another cornerstone of 21 Signal Regiment’s approach to building resilience and capability. From mountain expeditions to multi-activities, AT has challenged the soldiers both physically and mentally, fostering confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills in demanding environments.
With the Regiment having a strong interest in Adventurous Training, I seized the opportunity to organise and lead a Regimental Ski Foundation Level 1 and Level 2 course in Val Thorens, France, over a two-week period. It was a rewarding experience witnessing newcomers to skiing gaining so much enjoyment and a new qualification.
Many of the Level 1s were complete beginners and underwent instruction rom LCpl Coster, SSgt McGlinchey and Lt Col McGachy. Each day consisted of blue sky & sunshine with many challenges in various types of terrain. The instructors’ coachingstyleswereeloquent, witha holistic approach to each person’s needs, thus providing an enjoyable and rewarding experience for each student. Many of whom can’t wait until next year to reach their next level of ski development.
