2Lt Nicholson arrived in the build up to CT2 and was thrown in at the deep end with only two weeks to prepare; he was persuaded to entrust LCpl Stancombe with a precious ten pound note with which to buy some ‘fresh’, and ended up eating pot noodles and plastic hot dog sausages for a fortnight. The entire Squadron rolled out of the gates in early November, well-prepared and enthusias- tic to tackle whatever would be thrown at them. The Squadron Leader seemed determined to test every aspect of the REME’s capabilities (including their patience) from the  rst day of the exercise. In an effort to get as close as possible to his  tter sec- tion, Maj Grimditch organised an arduous night time recovery serial on the steepest slope he could  nd. The Squadron con- ducted some very slick obstacle crossings and delaying actions, as well as a professionally-executed  nal attack, and all this while dealing with dif cult communications issues.
