The Regimental Journal of The King’s Royal Hussars 25
punctuated by a maintenance day midway through; despite there being plenty of maintenance to do, it was completed in good time and the troops were rewarded with a trip to Westdown Camp where the Rugby World Cup nal was being shown. The rst week consisted of troop- and squadron -level manoeuvre, rehears- ing key drills and creating new SOP’s. The second week was more complicated squadron level manoeuvre and troop tests, as well as a visit from Brigadier Sergeant. All troops performed to a high standard in the Troop Tests, but it was SHQ that came out on top; for this they were awarded the prestigious Bengough Trophy. Everyone returned to Tidworth feeling content that the squadron had performed to a very high standard, until they reached the dreaded washdown...
The pre-Christmas work-load remained high (for those that weren’t skiing in Norway, or preparing to y to Verbier). Troop Sergeants utilised their workforce exceptionally well to prepare for the inspections that were due, and the many late nights put in were rewarded by the high grades that the squadron received. A Squadron contributed signi cant numbers to the Hodson’s Horse sports competition; our most successful sports were foot- ball, water polo and hockey. Concurrently, the squadron ran with
a Potential NCO cadre for the regiment. The exercise phase was held in the rst week of December and placed the students under very testing and stressful conditions. Tpr Mason is commended for his excellent effort throughout.
The year drew to a close with the usual round of Christmas festivi- ties. The of cers learnt not to take too long serving the Christmas Dinner or they would get the good news, and 2Lt Nicholson learnt to stay away from the Sergeant’s mess.
Nobody’s Own departed on Christmas leave in the secure knowl- edge that they had done themselves proud over an exceptionally busy and challenging year. A Squadron has shown that it can adapt to any situation, while maintaining an attitude of profes- sionalism and good humour; this was proven in arenas as diverse as: the drill square, where we won the drill competition; Salisbury Plain, where SHQ won the Troop Tests; Lulworth ranges, where we had two tanks in the top ve army-wide; and many more. We enter 2016 with the desire to outshine even our own performance of 2015.
