on the Battle of Paderborn and a trip to Wewelsburg castle (the former spiritual headquarters of the SS). Being suitably refreshed and rested, there then fol- lowed the main test exercise. C Squadron performed outstandingly during this phase, with 1st Troop, led by Mr Sheehan and Sergeant Messenger, winning the prize for best troop in the Regiment and an acknowl- edgement that C Squadron were the best performing squadron overall. Lance Corporal Khadka magnanimously took it upon himself to undertake a sponsored run to raise money for the relief of those suffering. With no prior prepara- tory training he ran 50km in just over ve hours, rais- ing a total of 3000 Euros; a fantastic effort.
The squadron then split to the four winds amid the turbulent period of Regimental rebasing. From the middle of May to the end of August, the squadron was divided between packing up Fallingbostel, forming part of the advance party in Leuchars and participation in the Waterloo 200 celebrations. The latter saw three members of the squadron being sent to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in Knightsbridge to undertake the mounted cavalry course, in preparation for forming our own mounted troop. In amongst all this the squadron still managed to send soldiers away on several adventurous training exercises; including multi-activity exercises to Castlemartin and Inverness; sailing in the Mediterranean and the Isle of Wight and sent soldiers to participate in the Regimental cycling expedition from Fallingbostel to Leuchars. The squadron also sent personnel to form part of
