The Alps on a shoe string
Alex Martin-Bates has a chalet to let in the beautiful Rhone Alps 5 km from Chamonix and would like to offer it at a very discounted price to fellow members of the AMA
Les Houches is a self-contained, pretty, alpine village in the shadow of Mont Blanc. With bars, restaurants and ski hire shops on your doorstep; it offers rural charm whilst being only 5km from Chamonix town centre, and less than an hour's drive from Geneva airport.
In winter, the main attraction of the val- ley is the varied skiing and for most of the season it is possible to ski to your door! The telecabin for the slopes is a 1 minute walk away and the international 'Kandahar' black run ends a few hun- dred yards from the apartment. In sum- mer, Les Houches transforms into a beautiful alpine playground with activi- ties for all ages.
Built in 2005, ‘Le Kandahar’ is a new, self-catering apartment 20 yards from the end of the piste & directly opposite the main Les Houches telecabin (Bellevue). Located at the southern end of the Chamonix valley in the Rhone Alps, the balcony looks out over a glacial stream from Mont Blanc.
The apartment has 3 bedrooms (2 dou- ble & 1 twin) and 2 bathrooms (including power shower). There is an open plan living room and kitchen with a balcony view up to Mont Blanc.
There is also parking for two cars and plenty of storage including ski locker.
The Chalet is available only to AMA members at discount prices:
1-2 people £300, 3 people: £360, 4 peo- ple: £440, 5 people: £500 or 6 people: £540

     AMA On Facebook
With a change in the MOD's communication policy the AMA is now able to run a Facebook group. It is private, will not show up in your profile and remains subject to certain security caveats on what can be published. Please remain vigilant and do not give away personal details on the web.
Only the group administrator can invite you to join. To do so get a Facebook account and then send Lt Col Paul Edwards an email (amavicechair@armynet.mod.uk) with FACEBOOK in the subject heading and your AMA number in the text asking to join and he will invite you to do so.
The Facebook page will not replace the SMS, Journal or web page but will allow you wider access to fellow climbers.
