ANOUNCEMENTS Insurance for Adventurous Training Activities
Sport Status
2009DIN01-050 Insurance for Adventurous Training Activities, dated March 2009 - This new DIN clearly states when additional insurance is needed for AT expeditions and what is covered by the MoD. The bottom line is that additional expensive rescue and medical insurance is not necessary for approved adventurous training, as the MoD will cover this liability.
The DIN gives clear advice on what MoD will not cover, such as personal kit, off duty activities and non approved AT. Individuals will need to make their own judgement on the level of insurance they wish to have, including Personal Accident insurance (such as PAX), but there is no longer a mandated MoD requirement to take out additional insurance for AT expeditions.
Mountaineering is now a recognised army sport, alongside rugby and football etc. and joins ‘Sport Climbing’ on indoor walls, which has been a recognised sport for some while. This new
status does however, only apply to AMA meets
attended by AMA members, and approved by the AMA executive committee. There will potentially be a number of benefits from this status including payment of travel to meets and some funding for equipment. This
change in status is ‘hot off the press’ so we will keep
you informed of any
benefits as they
arise. If you planning an expedition, and are told anything different by the
chain of command, including by your SO2 PAT at Div, please
quote the DIN and let me know amavicechair@armymail.mod.uk
Mark and record the following dates and get involved. Further details where not stated is through the Meets Co-ordinator (Barry Whale) and on the website closer to the time. If no POC is listed then we are still looking for volunteers, please do get in touch.

You can compete for the title, use these comps to assess your progress over the winter, or just have a laugh and fall off a lot!
