COWES WEEK REGATTA 2022
The Royal Southampton Yacht Club is one of the clubs that assists in the running and organising of a full week of racing for keel boats during Cowes Week.Trophies for the first day of racing are awarded to winners in all classes. (Black Group and White Group)
Last year the RSYC race management team hosted the four days of competition for
the J70 and Laser SB20s.The Race Officer, Mike Garvey, with his team ran back-to- back races, with windward leeward courses. The race team left OceanVillage and Hamble River each morning to rendezvous on the Hill Head plateau in the central Solent. Dave Martin supplied the Pin End vessel, Sabrina, which was kept busy as the start and finish line changed length for each race.
The four days provided some exciting close racing as I hope you can see from the photos.
The RIBs were kept busy with mark laying and spotting.
Extensive planning by Tina Scott, myself and Lisa Topley also took place before the event.
This regatta event is truly spectacular. Imagine managing thirty different starts, thirty different courses, recording finishing times and publishing results as fast as possible.
It’s an event quite like no other and RSYC are proud to be involved.
