conditions available on the website. Throughout the autumn and winter
the House Committee continued to offer social events and activities that we hope you enjoyed.Trafalgar Night in October was an excellent occasion. Our guest Speaker was a local historian, Colin Van Geffen, who gave an informative PowerPoint presentation
on Lord Nelson. We also introduced the Speakers’ Suppers, the first being with the English sailor Geoff Holt, who was paralysed in an accident at the age of eighteen and
in 2007 became the first quadriplegic yachtsman to sail solo around Great Britain. It was a delight to host the evening where Geoff gave an inspirational talk which
was well received and also raised funds for Geoff ’s Charity ‘Wetwheels’, and for our Commodore’s chosen Charity this year,The RSYC Trust.
Another successful charitable event held in September was the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning organised by a group of volunteers from the Club. This year we had some fantastic raffle prizes including a signed
painting by one of our members, the hugely talented artist, Reuben Powell. Reuben has also offered to showcase some of his art work at Gins this Spring - they will look great in the newly painted Clubhouse.
Christmas festivities again included
a traditional Christmas lunch, a
Christmas Party featuring one of our younger Members, the fabulous Giorgia O’Donoghue, who entertained guests singing some old and new Christmas favourites and the Children’s Christmas Party which was a sell out! We shall be having more events for ‘little ones’ at Easter (look out for the Easter Bunny) and during the Summer Regatta. The traditional post- ChristmasWalk from Gins along the shore was well supported and even though the weather was dreadful, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.
With a number of our older members now retiring from the Club our membership numbers have dropped slightly and so it’s important for us to grow our membership. To that end we have planned a recruitment drive in Spring to attract more new members, which started with an Open Day on 25th March promoting the facilities and activities of RSYC on and off the water.
We will continue to keep you updated on any further initiatives so if you’d like to be involved please contact me. I’d particularly like help from anyone with design or
marketing expertise, or anyone who fancies becoming the editor of this magazine.
Finally a big ‘thank you’ to my Committee Members - Jackie, Heather, Tina, Rob, Nathan, Natalie and last but not least Maggie, our House Committee and Membership Secretary, for all their help and support.
If you are interested in getting involved in any House Committee activities please contact me,Virginia Boyle at RCHouse@ rsyc.org.uk
