amongst grey berets is aligned with wider recognition of the talent and endeavour required to excel in ‘vir- tual colosseums’. Whilst there remain naysayers and nimbys, the very fact that the International Olympic Committee is considering the inclusion of E-Sports in future Olympiads is a fair reflection of its status across the world. Locally, the Regimental ‘Call of Duty’ team has competed against fellow RAC teams with some success, their games streamed live through the ‘RAC E-Sports Channel’ to interested virtual onlookers. Thanks to several generous benefactors, and a slice of unspent infrastructure budget, plans are afoot for the development of an E-Sports centre within the wire at Leuchars, providing improved opportunities and con- nectivity for our (predominantly) young and able gam- ers to compete against established teams from across
the Army and wider Defence, and provide openings to welcome the local community.
As we look towards activity in 2021, it is clear the pan- demic will continue to play a part in our lives for some time to come; frustrating as this is, we must remember this is temporary and normal service will resume. A rugby to tour to Fiji remains in the offing, a revital- ised football team brimming with talent will return to the field, and the prospect of a full winter sports sea- son is not too distant. For now, we focus the effort and energy that would normally be channelled onto the sporting field into preparations for readiness and operations, but have laid firm plans to recover when the time is right.
