20 The Regimental Journal of The King’s Royal Hussars
A (xHx) Squadron
Here, there and everywhere. Despite national lockdowns, personnel dispersed across the country, and the difficulties of COVID, A (xHx) Sqn has, as always, risen to the challenges thrown at it. Upon return from Estonia, the Sqn dispersed for some well earned post-operational tour leave, having accumu- lated some impressive leave cards.
On return from Estonia, Lt Fair, Sgt Kingston, Cpl Whitehead and Tpr Francis drove out to Verbier to represent the Regiment on Ex WHITE KNIGHT. With Lt Fair’s skiing style being lik- ened to that of ‘a gorilla on skis’ (To quote Lt Teuber) he retired to the bar where it seems he and Sgt Kingston spent most of the remainder of the trip discussing regimental drinking prowess. Early in 2020, Lt Heelas ‘Barbossa’ Jorgensen was not to break the habit of his time in Estonia and once more took soldiers to sea. Replacing the Straight of Finland for a fortnight spent island- hopping around the Caribbean will be unforgettable for all those who took part, despite the best efforts of the locally brewed rum. Especially for those swimming in the sea, eating lobster and snor- keling with turtles for the first time.
Firmly back to earth, the Regimental re-ORBAT in April saw several fundamental personnel changes. Capt Burnet moved to
pastures new in 20X HQ, seeing Capt Teuber move from, the now disbanded, 4th (Handsome) Tp to take over as Second in Command. Lts Heelas-Jorgensen and Turner left the Sqn to move to Phase 1 training at Winchester and D Sqn respectively, and we welcomed Lt Cavendish and 2Lt Trowbridge. WO2 Calland arrived from the Armored Reconnaissance Division in Warminster to replace WO2 Burnie, an xHx stalwart to whom the Sqn owe a massive debt of gratitude for his hard work, leadership and unwavering dedication to the members of “Nobody’s Own” during his tenure. SSgt Stringer went full (and still smoke-free!) signals nerd as the Bowman Systems Manager. He will excel in that appointment, and the Regiment is in a better place for hav- ing him at the helm. SSgt Lees, previously of C Sqn, has taken on SQMS(T) with ease, making the fitness warriors of the Sqn take note of a new champion in town. Sgt McKay moved to D Sqn and Sgt Freitag has taken a position as a permanent Staff Instructor in Wigan with the Queen’s Own Yeomanry. It is not a goodbye from Nobody’s Own forever for these two, and we hope the Sqn gets to count them as one of their number in the future.
For the first time, this year also saw Tps from A Sqn deploy in support of C Sqn on the palace forecourt led by Lt Fair and Sgt Bradbury. Despite the sweltering heat, Nobody’s Own stood
