Joint Hospital Group North Armistice Day Events
JHG(N) officers and soldiers paid their respects to the ‘fallen’ on Armistice Day – and made it a joint operation.
WO1 Coull had organised the event and the plans were in place when a second event with James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) was added. A small contingent was nominated for the JCUH event with the remainder attending the event in Gaza Barracks, where personnel paraded outside the HQ.
Soldiers were nominated to read passages; Cpl C Kinnear & Pte L Elliott, both QARANC, were two of those. A two-minute silence was held prior to DOCN Maj H James (QARANC) laying the wreath on behalf of the unit.
Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a curry lunch at the JNCO’s dining facility within the barracks. This was opportunity for those present to reflect
everyone enjoyed a curry lunch at the JNCO’s dining facility within the barracks
on their military experiences and in some cases to educate more junior members on past conflicts. The lunch was kindly funded by the QARANC Association for those members who are part of
the Day’s Pay Scheme.
Pictured is His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of
North Yorkshire Mrs Johanna Ropner with JHGN personnel – she carried out the official opening of JCUH’s veterans garden prior to Armistice Day. The ribbon cutting was followed by a remembrance service led by the hospital chaplain team; following the two-minute silence a wreath was laid by Pte A Monarch, QARANC.
The garden was created by members of the NHS Trust with support from some of the unit’s military personnel, for the purpose of honouring the Armed Forces and to provide a space for reflection and remembrance.
Petting zoo, painting and pizza among the fun on families’ day
JHG(N) held a families’ day at Catterick Garrison last August.
It was a large-scale event designed to give all individuals at JHG(N) and their friends and loved ones a chance to come together. The day consisted of various interactive stands including, a magician, pizza making, police, fire engine, petting zoo, face painting, live music and more.
The day was a huge success and enjoyed by all. We just want to say a big thank you to the QARANC Association for the kind
donation of £750 which
was appreciated and
greatly received.
