Borneo Company Charity Ball
On the evening of Saturday 23rd February, Borneo Company of the Senior division held its Charity Ball. By popular request of
those in the company, the theme ‘Indian Sum- mers’ was chosen – perhaps to combat the frigid February chill – and, as daylight faded, both cadets and civilians alike showed off a wealth of creativity and ingenuity in their costumes.
A fantastic three course meal was served by the catering staff of New College, while drinks were provided by the erstwhile members of Med- als’ Bar. Guests were greeted by two dancers dressed in traditional Indian garb, who provided entertainment for the early stages of the even- ing to background music; at the same time a renowned magician, Archie Manners, performed a ‘meet and greet’ at the tables, as well as a 15 minute solo show after dinner.
Afterwards, the key fundraiser began – the char- ity auction. A mixture of military and civilian prizes were up for grabs, including a multitude of items kindly donated by the Sandhurst Trust, such as a Leatherman, high-powered binoculars, and Garmin GPS gear – staple items for future young officers!
The night ended with music provided by the REME Corps Band, who covered a range of well-known classics for the guests. The night

provided in excess of £10,000 for a number of charities: The Commandant’s Fund, Refuge, MS Society, Make a Wish Foundation, and Mind – in memory of Officer Cadet Olivia Perks.
Borneo Company would like to thank their Com- manding Officer for allowing the event to take place, and the catering staff of New College for their excellent service. Furthermore, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to the Sandhurst Trust, whose donations raised more than £500 for our chosen charities. Without this sort of generosity, such events would not be able to take place at Sandhurst, nor become such key memories for its Officer Cadets.
