glorious day in the Dolomites. A breathtaking view of Misurina valley was visible in distance.
Mountain biking day one started with basic skills practice and a familiarisation ride on a trail near Cortina which allowed the instructor to assess the skill levels of all members. The second day’s plan was to use ski lifts to the mountain top and ride all the way down, but it did not pan out as expected. The lift halfway through the mountain was closed. There is a saying “where there is a will, there is a way”. We rode/carried our bikes
all the way to the top even though some of us exceeded our physical threshold. The reward at the end was a stunning view from the top, and a thrill-filled downhill ride.
To sum it all up, it was a fruitful week for all. Operating in an unknown environment presented unique challenges. The team were exposed to controlled risk to develop leadership skills, teamwork and physical courage, which are the Army’s Core Values and Standards.
