Despite these difficult times your Veteran Buglers of the Buglers’ Association have been very busy supporting the Regiment and the community. Under the leadership of Stan Wilkinson, Chairman, and Vice Chairman, David Mence, your Buglers have played, since the last edition, at 28 funerals, two weddings, one surprise 66th birthday for a Veteran suffering from Motor Neurone disease, four 100th year birthdays and at
a Zoom event for Colonel Mike Elcombe’s 100th birthday arranged by the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Association.
Remembrance Day saw Stan Wilkinson and Don Somers play at the Roadside Memorial Service in Ballygawley, Northern Ireland. This was a particularly poignant event since the Ballygawley Memorial had previously been badly damaged and then wonderfully restored
by Councillor Alan Rainey BEM and the local community. David Mence, Kirk Bear
Richardson and Steve Vaughan
played at the Cenotaph, Whitehall, for the Remembrance Service of the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and women (AJEX). The highlight, however, of this period goes to Paul Sammy Goose who played his last, Last Post on New Year’s Eve, after playing tirelessly every night at 8 pm for the last nine months. He live streamed his Last Post every night
in honour of those who had died as a result
of COVID-19, for their families and for all Key Workers. He is also fundraising for the ICU in Barnsley Hospital. He reached the final 4 in the Pride of Britain Award 2020 for this but as far as the Buglers’ Association is concerned he
is the tops.
