MIDLANDS
Antecedent regiments are also commemorated on the memorial to the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment, an obelisk of Portland stone which was unveiled by our previous Colonel-in- Chief, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, in 2012.
Most recent of our forming regiment memorials is the one to the Devonshire and Dorset regiment, unveiled in 2017. On a plinth of Portland stone are three bronze statues depicting soldiers serving on the Somme, at Kohima and in Northern Ireland.
The next of the Forming Regiment memorials erected was the Light Infantry’s, a large slab of Portland stone with two stone benches flanking it bearing the badges of the antecedent county regiments, which was dedicated in 2011.
The KSLI memorial, a slab of grey granite bearing the Colours and the Regimental Motto, flanked with marble benches, was unveiled in 2015.
Planning for a regimental memorial for The Rifles at the NMA is ongoing and further details will be given in due course.
