The Commandos have a proud and distinguished history in the high north. During the Second World War, Opera- tions CLAYMORE and ARCHERY were successful British combined opera- tions raids against German positions on islands off the Norwegian coast. The Heroes of Telemark, the 1965 film starring Kirk Douglas, immortalised the snowy expanses of Norway in the legend of the birth of Commando Forces. Yet recent years have once again seen the focus of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery turn to the high north.
