best deal we could find was with the curator of the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Gardens, who kindly offered her grounds in return for the removal of some invasive species of flora in the gardens! The exercise went ahead smoothly and validated the embarked Royal Marine Landing Craft Operators, Royal Navy Mobile Air Operations Team (MAOT), Royal Navy Shore Party and the RE HADR Troop two months before the hurricane season began.
By late July Op BROADSHARE was coming to an end, with the teams handing over to their respective partners within the Cayman Islands Government. The medical and logistics teams had helped to streamline mass PCR testing which resulted in the small nation ranking third in the world for tests per capita and had also contributed to the construction of a Night- ingale Hospital in the capital of Georgetown. The police advisors had spent their time liaising with both the Royal Caymans Islands Police (RCIP) and the Royal Cayman Islands Prison Service, helping to set up public order training, writing contingency plans for future states of emergency and coordinating security vetting for the CIR. The RM CI had trained the RCIP and the prison service in the use of open-source intelligence and we, as the security team had established, recruited, prepared and equipped the CIR at IOC. All of the while, the Team Leader had liaised daily with the Foreign Office, DFID, SJFHQ, the CI Governor, Premier and

across wider Government to help unify our efforts. At the end of the deployment, the SAT 2 were thanked by the Governor of the Cayman Islands, His Excellency Mr Martin Roper OBE, and presented with commemorative pins of the Cayman Islands coat of arms. Without doubt, Op BROADSHARE was a once in a career opportunity for all of the SAT 2 members, and one that will be remembered with pride for a long time to come.
