MESS MATTERS
The Officers’ Mess has enjoyed an incredibly busy year, with the summer playing host to a series of excellent events.
The summer ball themed as, ‘what they want to be when they grow up,’ encompassed a festival of food and drink hosted in an enormous tepee tent with an open fire.
There was a bungee run, ‘Total Wipeout,’ the ubiquitous ‘pong’ and an awesome band called the ‘Supershakers’ that kept the whole place bouncing until the early hours.
There was a Battle-Group dinner in Bulford in September and one in Normandy Barracks, Sennelager, both with an enormous guest list.
Maj Gen Bewick OBE was the principal guest in Bulford, as well as Brigadier Boswell, the Regimental trustees and several officers from organisations and positions due to support the battalion as it prepares to enter PDT before deployment to Op CABRIT in 2024.
Our Sjt’s Mess has thoroughly enjoyed a productive and entertaining year. With the committee as the driving force behind the functions, there is still a positive and regular attendance during normal working hours at Tea and Toast, meal timings and the evening bar. The inclusion of darts boards and pool tables has

massively helped this along, becoming the main focal point of the Mess. There have been several dinners and LIMS nights, including pizza, fancy dress, and pool knockout competitions.
However, perhaps most notably, the Dining Out of the previous RSM, WO1 Sweet on the gaining of his commission. The Summer Function this year was a Festival themed party, the last function with the full Mess prior to the BG deploying. Finally, the Mess took to hosting the Canadians, whilst they conducted the Cambrian Patrol competition, giving them a good flavour of British traditions.
