8 RIFLES GLOBAL CHARGE 2023
Global Charge is an Annual 1 Division Green Initiative to raise Environmental awareness and give back to our communities.
This year 8 RIFLES chose to support Durham Council in its Park Maintenance programme.
Riflemen worked for the day alongside Park Rangers at Broom Park just outside Durham to coppice Hazel trees, resurface walkways and hang a new gate at “The RIFLES” entrance to the park.
Despite the autumn weather and early

start it was a well-supported event by both Regular and Reserve personnel giving a fantastic opportunity to grow our teams outside of the conventional structure with the bonus of not only giving back to the local community, but also doing our little piece for the environment.

BISMARCK CHALLENGE
8 RIFLES took part in the BISMARK CHALLENGE, in October. The Bismark Challenge is a military endurance event, which takes place over a 4-mile, off road undulating route in the Catterick training area.
To participate you must enter a four- person team which can consist of either an all-male, female or
mixed team across the regular Army and Army reserve. To win this challenge, as the top Reserve unit you must enter all three categories. Within each category you must carry 40kg within the team, excluding water. The way in which the weight is split across the team is down to the team captain. The

changed it to team Cohesion where you will start and finish as a team rather than as an individual.
A fantastic effort from the Battalion!
We entered all three teams, with the male and female team placing top within the reserve category. However due to an injury the mixed team didn’t place within the top third. Nevertheless, due to the timings each of the three teams received, 8 RIFLES did place as the top reserve unit that participated. A fantastic effort from the Battalion!
