RTT
RIFLES TRAINING TEAM
The team continues to focus on developing, mentoring, and coaching personnel from across The Rifles and wider Army.
A team bonding day in London saw our instructors kept busy with a brief from the Head Up Charity, a visit to the Gym Shark HQ (the civilian PTI was the spit of Aqua Man), and a meditation and yoga session. This helped re-focus the RTT and ensure they were fully prepared for the final six months, delivering high quality training and significant output.
During this period we have delivered five Rifleman’s cadres, which has constantly evolved to ensure any gaps left by phase one training are completed. The course contains regimental history, a visit to RHQ, fitness, navigation, medical, and military knowledge. There is a Chosen Man competition in
the second week, which is basically an assessment of everything previously taught. Arguably the most important part of the course is Basic Radio Users which every Rifleman must complete and is essential for promotion to LCpl.
July saw the second edition of the JNCO Leadership Development package, which focused on in-camp skills. There is an agreed consensus that the infantry is fantastic at training our soldiers for battle, but terrible at setting them up for success in barracks, an area we as a regiment are now looking to
work on. Despite being undersubscribed we hope to rectify this for future courses so that our JNCO’s benefit fully.
We had only planned to deliver two Infantry Skills Courses, but due to unforeseen circumstances had to schedule a third in
the howling November weather, in Brecon. These courses shape and develop our
future commanders prior to attending their respective career courses and aren’t just focused on Brecon courses, but also Support Arms JNCO preparation.
In October we delivered the RMAS Potential CSjt Instructor Pre-Course with seven runners from across the regiment, two RGR and one RHG/D Corporal of the Horse, cutting about
in his blue, red, blue flash. This two-week package not only assesses character and professionalism but also ensures we are sending the best runners towards the RMAS cadre.
The team of new instructors who all arrived in the first half the year have performed exceptionally well, nearly maintaining the high standards set by their predecessors. CSjt Nicholas has settled in and CSjt Clarks orders armchairs very well, observing orders with his side hat and pipe while deployed on the ISC.
Sjt Poole who replaced Sjt Deal is the new fitness weapon of the team, which the OC’s knees really appreciate. Sjt Poole is up
Sjt Poole who replaced Sjt Deal is the new fitness weapon of the team
for the challenge of racing any JNCO on any fitness event; those who can keep up or even get close to beating him will be doing exceptionally well.
The Training team Serjeant Major, WO2 Saul Brunt has settled in fantastically well, and has taken off exactly where WO2 Hamilton left, making the OC brews all day every day, whilst adding significant value to the team.
A huge pat on the back to everyone for everything they have done. A lot has been asked of them and they have been unwavering in their response, ensuring the good name of the RTT is maintained.
Swift and Bold.
