8 MONTHS IN POST
Where has time gone? Eight months in the role as Regional Secretary South East/ London has been a whirlwind to say the least, on the ground running from the start.
My first month of May saw me into the ‘Mayor Making Season,’ throughout the region attending local events and enjoying the Mayor parades. The Officers’ Dinner came soon after in July and a great turn out and an amazing Sounding Retreat performance from the
Band and Bugles in the grounds of Guildhall. ACF and CCF camps ran over the summer
and were assisted by Riflemen from 5 and 7 RIFLES.
Lord Lieutenant Awards were held in September, October and November in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire where The Rifles were represented by Officers and Soldiers of 7 RIFLES, County Colonels and the Regional Secretary. A great outcome with three Lord Lieutenant Cadet Awards for 2024 going to RIFLES’ Cadets.
Remembrance activities took place once again with marching contingents from 7 RIFLES in our Freedom Towns and Cities, and 5 RIFLES supporting their garrison in Bulford. A huge thank you to 2, 4 and 7 RIFLES personnel, and all those who supported and gave their time to laying the wreaths at the graves of
the fallen. This also entailed support to the families which many messages of thanks were received, they appreciate remaining part of The Rifles family.
My personal thanks go to everyone who has aided, advised and made my initial period in the role as Regional Secretary a great experience, I look forward to the upcoming challenges.
