BODMIN KEEP
Bodmin Keep has been a hive of activity
in recent months, with museum staff and volunteers running events, educational workshops, commemoration ceremonies and remembrance services at the Keep, as well as getting out and about to support the wider local community.
In October, Bodmin Keep hosted a ceremony for the rededication of the US 29th Infantry Division memorial plaque. Susan Kearney, a member of The 29th Division Association, travelled from the United States to be a part of the ceremony commemorating the 3,533 soldiers of The 29th who were killed in battle between 6 June 1944-8 May 1945.
Our Learning team delivered educational sessions to school children from across the county throughout the Autumn term and ran a workshop for 1st year A-Level History students at Callywith College to support their study of the Boer War.
The team at Bodmin Keep are looking forward to the year ahead, with plans to redevelop and reinvigorate the building, the museum, and our collection to improve the visitor experience and future-proof the museum for future generations.

CALL FOR
ORAL HISTORY
PARTICIPANTS
Bodmin Keep is recording the experiences of veterans and currently serving regular and reservist members of The Rifles, for an oral history project that aims to capture the experiences of operations across Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan.
We’re looking to speak with any serviceman or women willing to share their stories with us, to provide first- hand perspectives of life at the forefront of overseas operations. We are also hoping to interview wives and family members to help us understand the impact on the families of soldiers.
The recordings will be kept in our archive for research purposes and, where suitable, included in future exhibitions at the museum. The first of which is an exhibit about the Northern Ireland campaign known as Operation Banner.
We would also like to hear from anyone interested in interviewing their peers. Training and support will be provided for this.
If you wish to participate, either as an interviewee, interviewer, or both, please contact the Bodmin Keep team via email at info@bodminkeep.org.uk. You have the right to withdraw from the project at any time, with the option to participate anonymously.
MEMORIALS
The Regiment continue to hold small services at Memorials and this year the plaque in Dorchester Hospital was renovated by a skilled craftsman and short service took place with hospital staff and regimental members.
A new plaque was designed for the Chapel in Exeter Cathedral, ensuring the features were in line with the Cathedral wishes.
