LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OF SENIOR CADETS AT THE HEART OF THE RED STAR CADRE
Devon Army Cadet Force (ACF) held its first weekend of the new “Red Star Cadre” in Exeter in November. The aim of the cadre is to develop the leadership skills
of the senior cadets and give them direct access to the Commandant and the Senior Leadership team.
The focus of this weekend was on leadership styles, understanding feelings and emotions, how to communicate and self-awareness. The cadets heard firsthand about the experiences of the Senior Officers and adults on their own journeys to become
leaders.
The cadre is the brainchild of County
Commandant, Colonel Steve Frost, who commented: “The main purpose is to develop the cadet’s leadership potential. On the weekend they all created a personal development plan, which will be reviewed every six months. It is hoped that as a by-product, it will improve the retention of our senior cadets.”
Sgt Abi HollyOake (16) from Mutley Detachment said; “I didn’t know what to expect from the weekend, so I was relieved
I didn’t know what to expect from the weekend
to find it was quite relaxed. Writing my development plan has helped me to focus on what it is that I would really like to achieve with the rest of my time in the ACF”.
BEARER OF THE
BRIDGWATER
MAYORS MACE
Cadet Corporal Hoyland of Somerset ACF was the Bearer of the Bridgwater Mayor’s Mace at the recent Remembrance Sunday commemoration and parade. Cianna Hoyland is a member of Somerset ACF
and a part of the team that won the recent RIFLES Cadet Cup. The picture shows the mayoral party just prior to the march past of veterans and cadets within the town centre. Beforehand all had gathered at the town’s War Memorial before hearing the Bishop of Bath and Wells giving his address at nearby St Mary’s Church.
