JOANNE BOOTH-MASON MEMORIAL FUND GOLF EVENT FOR AARP
This fundraising event was organised in August at Woking Golf Club, in aid of the Joanne B-M Memorial Fund for the AARP. Joanne’s Fund was set up in 2012 to help those injured under Care 4 Casualties and now for those in need under AARP. It has helped over 100 Riflemen.
18 teams of four competed in a 4-ball Stableford competition after an early shotgun start. Two Buglers invited the golfers into lunch, at the end of which I
read out a very nice letter from Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales who wished us well with our endeavours and was sorry she could not attend. Lt General Thomas Copinger-Symes CBE then presented prizes to the winners of various competitions.
Johnny Mercer MP (UK Government Veterans Minister) sent a short video
wishing everyone well before Baz Melia gave a short but hard-hitting presentation about the AARP. Chad Murrin then conducted a very successful auction. Donors were beyond generous towards sporting events, theatre and Xmas show tickets, superior bottles of wine and whiskey, holiday homes, dining vouchers, golf rounds, Murrayfield Calcutta Cup rugby tickets and Lords cricket Test Match tickets.
The very enjoyable event generated an incredible £39,700 from not just the golf day itself but also from Just Giving, gift aid recovery and further donation. Thank you to all those that contributed so generously. Simon Booth-Mason
