Joint Service News
the Hag Dyke Adventure Training Camp. This has allowed many cadets to move outside their comfort zones and take part in activities that they would, otherwise, never had the chance to be involved
in. In addition, he has embedded himself into the local community as an energetic advocate of youth activities, seen by his sheer determination to provide the young people of Easingwold, the surrounding villages and the wider organisation with a purposeful activity that will remain with them into adulthood.
FLIGHT LIEUTENANT CHARLOTTE BRIDGES
Flight Lieutenant Charlotte Bridges began her air cadet adult volunteer service as a Civilian Instructor in September 2003, entering uniformed service
in March of 2005. Serving with distinction across
a number of North Yorkshire squadrons, she consistently encourages, and expects the highest standards from those in her charge, a true reflection of the demands she places upon herself.
The number of activities she involves herself in is unrivalled, and she is always willing to avail herself to ensure any activity she delivers provides the best possible experiences for all attendees. This runs across all her roles, be it Wing Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Officer, North Region Deputy DofE Officer
or her endeavours within the world of Adventure Training, again on both local and regional levels, always encouraging air cadet personnel to take up opportunities in true keeping with the air cadets’ central motto ‘Venture Adventure’.
In addition, she has also served as a Section Commander of Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate Combined Cadet Force RAF section, where she continued to provide the same level of commitment to develop, encourage and train the cadets and young officers of the unit.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Kirandeep Kundi strives to achieve
the highest standards and get the people working around him
to emulate this through his support, mentoring and with a firm hand.
WARRANT OFFICER CLASS 2 KIRANDEEP KUNDI
Warrant Officer Class 2 Kirandeep Kundi brings a calm but assertive manner to the organisation, its cadets and staff. He strives to achieve the highest standards and get the people working around him to emulate this through his support, mentoring and with a firm hand.
He dedicates time and efforts far in excess of that expected by the organisation and wider cadet movement. Having recently commanded and mentored Commanding Officers to a point where they are able to develop and grow their own teams and units and the wider cadet experience shows he has an eye for detail, training and strategy which is integral in his role and the wider cadet experience.
He is a mainstay at the Area events (with an area geographically covering from Scarborough to St Albans) where he manifests a broad range of skills and interests including parade and ceremonial, senior cadet and staff development and boating. If he is not in attendance people want to know why, as he is their go to person for support and guidance.
STAFF SERGEANT INSTRUCTOR STEPHEN BRIGHTMORE
Throughout his sixteen years’ service Staff Sergeant Instructor Stephen Brightmore has proved to be a dedicated member of staff, who despite having a job which requires him to work shifts, does all he can to support the cadet experience. This often includes him opening the detachment on his way to work before a night shift or on his way home from an earlier shift.
In addition to his detachment and company
duties he has shown an unwavering commitment
to the Remembrance parade at Stannington where he fulfils the role of Parade Marshal. He is always immaculately turned out and he, in return, demands a high standard of professionalism and organisation from the attendees parading which involves a diverse range of dignitaries, youth groups, a brass band and members of the local council. Coordination of such a varied group is not a straightforward
task, however SSI Brightmore always negotiates
the challenges with a robust, calm attitude and his characteristic good humour.
SQUADRON LEADER BARRY FRENCH
Squadron Leader French is an unsung hero of
the Royal Air Force Air Cadets having served continuously as an adult member for more than 41 years. He completed his cadet service as a Cadet Warrant Officer with an enviable record and an accolade of achievements including representing the Corps at national level in football and rugby.
He commenced his adult career as a Warrant Officer with 370 (North Sheffield) Squadron in 1982 as the Squadron Warrant Officer. By 1985, he was commissioned and became Commanding Officer of 362 (Ashleigh School) Squadron the same year. He was instrumental in driving the squadron forward and achieved the Regional Nomination for the Lees Trophy as the best squadron from North Region in 1988, resulting in his squadron becoming one of the top six nationwide from over a thousand squadrons competing for the trophy.
Two special guests made an unscheduled appearance after the ceremony – Ted and Meg are well known as DofE and AT enthusiasts!
