their swimming skills. During the winter and over Christmas she volunteered at a local Hull soup kitchen for the homeless, which has now become something she does every other week in support of people struggling to afford food for meals.
Flight Sergeant Callum McGrath is an ever present when it comes to the squadron’s community
work. He regularly participates in the RAFA Wings Appeal and RBL Poppy collections, alongside regular supermarket bag pack fund raising events, in addition to attending community parades and the Annual act of Remembrance. Other attended community events include RAFA’s Brew for a
Few in Cottingham, and the Falkland Islands 40th Anniversary Event held at The Old Market Place, Hull.
His graduation on the prestigious Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course has been an extremely proud moment for both him and those around him, which was made even better by being named ‘Top Student’.
Lance Corporal Oliver Reid frequently attends local events on behalf of the detachment for charities that are represented by TS Iron Duke. He has taken the detachment through a District drill Competition as the Guard Commander in which he won the Best Guard Commander award. He recently attended a 2nd Class Drill Leaders course and passed with a high mark. He has qualified in a range of different arenas during his time with the SCC, including Catering and Stewarding, First Aid, Marine Engineering, Navigation and Meteorology.
Sergeant Charley Foster-Tomlinson – outside of the cadet force Sergeant Charley Foster-Tomlinson is a Girl Guide within the Ranger section and has three different roles that support young girls in her community. As a leader she helps young girls learn new skills that are a part of their programme but also basic life skills and helps support them to build confidence, identity and self-esteem; something that she feels extremely passionate about and also brings in to the ACF. She is also a peer educator where she delivers a programme to help educate young girls from across the country on different topics such
as staying safe, community awareness, bullying, inclusivity and how to be a good member of society. Through this she has managed to change the lives of many young girls.
Flight Sergeant Joseph Doszczeczko has participated in many community events such as The Battle of Britain Parade, The Mi Amigo Memorial, Poppy selling and much more over the last few years. He has frequently represented his squadron and wing at numerous camps which has taken him across the UK.
Lance Corporal Shania Roche–Dowdall has attended every Royal Marines Cadets camp, displaying a professional approach to all tasks way beyond her years. She enjoys shooting and has attended a number of shooting events since returning from Covid lockdown. She was also a

member of the Sheffield RMC Drill Team that was the first in Sheffield’s history to represent the unit
at a National Drill Competition and a member of
the Gibraltar Cup team for 2023 coming second across the country. In addition, she completed her Drill Leader Second Class, scoring highly and being recommended to attend the National Drill Leader Course. She is an active participant in all events,
and has represented the unit nationally at Football, Drill and Gibraltar Cup, together with Rowing at Area level.
Cpl Katie Crompton has always had an active role within the ACF and her local community, often supporting the RBL and taking part in fundraising activities. During the Covid-19 pandemic she took the lead on looking after the welfare of her cadets and developing a point of contact where cadets could go to maintain some form of on-line training. She would often contact other cadets to organise online social activities to keep them engaged. Her detachment has said this has been vital to the health and wellbeing of her peers. She has also competed at company and county level in rugby and football and is very keen on all matters first aid.
Sergeant Tomasz Wallace has a great grounding
in a number of activities the Air Cadets has to offer, including Silver Leadership, and St Johns Youth First Aid. He has chosen to specialise in Gliding, where
he has received his Bronze wings, and is currently a Flight Staff cadet at a local Volunteer Gliding School. He is also a regular attender at community events, often representing the Squadron and community parades with other local units in the area. He also attends charitable work with Kirkwood Hospice, RAFA, and the Royal British Legion.
Cadet Battery Sergeant Major Matthew McGowan
has commenced the Gold level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s award, by way of his residential and has registered for his Expedition, which is by sailing. He also met the requirements for the CCF Advanced syllabus, which was mirrored by the presentation
of the ACF 4 Star in Oct 2022 and Master Cadet in March 2023. Outside cadets he has achieved his RYA First aid Certificate, Dingy sailing, and Power Boat Licence.
Petty Officer Cadet Talitha Ridley is an active member of the unit supporting events that raise funds for the unit and other charities; together
with raising the profile of the unit/Sea Cadets including, Armed Forces Day, bag packing events, poppy selling and remembrance events. There
have also been many smaller community events
she has supported such as the Sandal Castle fun day, calendar deliveries, scarecrow festivals and veteran’s parade. She is also willing to help with
the training of our younger cadets. She also holds qualification in a wide range of subjects including Piping, Marine Engineering, Cadet Drill Instructor, Advanced First Aid, Intermediate Catering, Basic Seamanship, Power Level 2, RYA Sailing Stage 4 and Rowing Coxswain.
