YORK RESCUE BOAT

It was an exciting evening on Monday 18th Sept 2023 when members of the York Rescue Boat team visited Duncombe Barracks. The volunteers talked about their work and demonstrated some of their life- saving techniques, before encouraging the cadets to join in.
The event was also something of a reunion, as two of the team's volunteers (Joanna and Daniel Waddington) were former Lumley cadets, and two other members are their parents, Sally and Mark.
The cadets and adult volunteers, from Fulford and Lumley Detachments, learned a lot about
the dangers of jumping into a river, how to rescue someone at risk in the water, and how to administer water-specific first aid. They also learned who was most skilled at throwing the rescue ropes!
A big thank you to everyone involved for giving up their free time to teach us such important skills.
