LORD-LIEUTENANT’S CADETS
APPOINTED AND ADULT VOLUNTEERS
RECOGNISED WITH LORD-
LIEUTENANT’S CERTIFICATES
Across Yorkshire during the autumn our Lord-Lieutenants were delighted to present their cadets with certificates and badges of appointment which they will wear proudly over the next year of their service. In addition, numerous adult volunteers were also presented with the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate, and the cadets and adults are pictured with their respective Lord-Lieutenant.

Potted facts on the Adult Volunteers awarded Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificates include:
CHIEF PETTY OFFICER JOHN HOLAH
Chief Petty Officer Holah is blessed with a “we’ll make it work attitude”. He does not accept things can’t be done and he will normally find a way to make it happen. His priority is to ensure that the cadets have the best opportunities available, especially going on the offshore voyages and is prepared to do whatever he can to accomplish it.
As the Executive Officer at Hull Sea Cadets, he is hard working and keeps the morale of the staff up even when things get tough. During Covid the unit lost a few cadets but thanks to his efforts and all of his online training, turning up twice a week from his living room and making the lessons so enjoyable Hull unit managed to recruit some new cadets.
COLOUR SERGEANT PAUL HOFMAN
Colour Sergeant Hofman is an outstanding Cadet Instructor blessed with a ‘can do’ attitude. His priority is always to ensure that the cadets have the best opportunities available to them, especially going into field training.
One of his passions has to be his love of drill. He has taken Hull Royal Marines Cadet Detachment to the national championships on at least two consecutive years and ensures Xray Company maintains a high standard of drill by assessing and judging on Troop, Area and National courses and competitions.

CAPTAIN HOLLIE TROUGHTON
Always at the fore to support, Captain Hollie Troughton piloted the new Parent Pay Scheme paving the way for the County to launch successfully. She has a successful full time career and a busy family life with two children. On appointment
to Training Officer Captain Troughton, ever the professional, and to enhance the best for the cadet experience undertook the Junior Camp 2023.
She pulled together a challenging and dynamic programme of events for over 200 junior cadets to enjoy a five day package of activities and awards at
1 star level including an Easter Extravaganza fun packed evening of games and sporting activities. This highly complex programme was constantly being amended for weather, low instructor numbers etc., yet still fulfilled record passes.
STAFF SERGEANT INSTRUCTOR JOHN DRURY
SSI Drury was appointed as the Detachment Commander of Brough Detachment in 2011, a position he excelled in, pulling the detachment back from a very rocky and unstable past due to
not having an established building to parade from. The detachment went from parading in a locker room at the local cricket pavilion to a well-furnished and professional detachment opposite the British Aerospace site.
Under his leadership the detachment bounced back and quickly became a popular activity for the young residents within Brough. In July 2021 following some staff changes, SSI Drury assumed command of Goole Detachment, a position he currently still holds alongside his day job as a gas engineer for British Gas.
