The Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Johanna Ropner with Cadet Force recipients from North Yorkshire
SERGEANT INSTRUCTOR JOANNA BRENTANO
As an esteemed member of the Band at A Company, Sergeant Instructor Brentano’s contributions have been nothing short of exceptional. Her tireless efforts in maintaining the stores of uniforms and meticulously preparing cadets and adult band members for parades and public engagements have set a standard of excellence that is unparalleled.
Her meticulous attention to detail shines through and her commitment to perfection is matched only by her unwavering presence and dedication, as
she has never missed a training evening with the Band. Her influence extends far beyond her musical contributions as she has also taken on the vital responsibility of adult health and mental welfare advocate for cadet force adult volunteers and cadets alike. Her genuine care for others and compassionate nature have endeared her to the cadets, who often seek her out for guidance, support, and a reassuring shoulder to lean on.
Many cadets view her as a surrogate mother figure, appreciating her sage advice and unwavering presence in their lives.
SERGEANT INSTRUCTOR CHRISTOPHER BREWIN
Sergeant Christopher Brewin has a clear passion and huge enthusiasm for First Aid, this is evident through his manner whilst delivering training courses. He is professional in his approach to training delivery and has the ability to educate people of all ages in vital lifesaving skills. He has led a number of cadet first aid teams through company, county and regional first aid competitions, delivered numerous first aid courses ranging from basic level through to First
Aid at Work offering cadets and adult volunteers the opportunity to gain a valuable qualification which is recognised outside of the organisation by employers.
CIVILIAN INSTRUCTOR ANDREW COOPER
When his daughter joined the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, little did Civilian Instructor Andrew Cooper know that the organisation would become such a huge part of his life. Just four months after she joined as a cadet in 2006, he began his own service as a Civilian Instructor, and has served at 152 (City of Hull) Squadron in this capacity ever since.
As the squadron’s needs shifted, he adapted to the changing requirements and undertook a wide

variety of roles including Adjutant, Training Officer, and Storeman. He has served under two Squadron Commanders, the current being that very same daughter who introduced him to the Air Cadets back in 2006.
Happiest when doing his bit to support both other volunteers and cadets, he can regularly be found administering the Squadron’s Junior Cadet intake, keeping the squadron’s stores maintained, and undertaking whatever challenges are presented to him by his Officer Commanding.
CIVILIAN INSTRUCTOR STEPHEN THROWER
Having spent several years as an air cadet and having had a very successful career as a Survival Equipment Specialist in the Royal Air Force, Civilian Instructor Stephen Thrower returned to where it all began
and re-joined 152 (City of Hull) Squadron in 2006. Not wanting to re-enter uniformed service, he was swiftly appointed as a Civilian Instructor and has served in this capacity ever since.
His enthusiasm for developing junior cadets, and his relaxed persona, gives him a rapport with the cadets that sees them continue to look to him for guidance throughout their cadet careers. At the same time the ‘RAF Senior Non-Commissioned Officer’ has never really left him, making him the ideal staff member for developing the new generation of air cadets.
MAJOR MARK PROLLINS
Over the past 10 years Major Mark Prollins has given his time to support the Area team with the training and development of new officers in the Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets. His enthusiasm and commitment are second to none and he
does everything with the application of a good sense of humour. He is very keen to bring along others on their journey, so they can develop their communication, leadership skills and confidence.
As Company Commander he leads the Company, ensuring a great experience for the Royal Marine Cadets in the Company’s Area of Operations and to ensure that the experience is maintained through suitably challenging and enjoyable camps, courses and other events. He always maintains high standards of discipline, administration, training and safety in everything he does.
