 CADET TAKES TO THE SKIES
On Sunday, 5th November Cadet Zachary Jenkins took to the skies in a Viking glider for the very first time.
Zachary, who had never been gliding before, enjoyed some exhilarating winch-launched flights, courtesy of 644 Volunteer Gliding Squadron, which is based at RAF Syerston, Newark, and said after the flight “It was an incredible experience and very different to what you might expect it to be like”
It was a beautiful day for practicing the basic handling for pitching and turning, in addition to learning how position the glider for landing.
As the photograph suggests, a very enjoyable time was had!
  PADDLE BOARDING
By Cadet Harry Atkinson
My experience paddle boarding was amazing. It gives cadets the chance to try something new and make new friends from different squadrons.
After being picked up as a group and driving to North Yorkshire Water Park, I was very excited to do paddle boarding properly, as I like doing other water sports with my family.
The way they set up was very good, we arrived, we pumped up the paddle boards, and we were straight onto the water. Whilst on the water we did some activities such as throwing foam missiles at each other, picking up rubber ducks and racing to put our specific coloured ducks on a bigger paddle board.
We also got taught how to stand up paddle properly, and it has definitely made me want to go again.
Towards the end of the
evening, we put all the
paddle boards together and cadets volunteered to run across them and jump in the water which was great fun.
Overall, I really
liked it. I enjoyed the feeling of getting in the cold water and doing something different.
