STEM ACTIVITIES
AT WHARFEDALE
By Pilot Officer Sam Cook
1224 Wharfedale cadets have once again been busy with their STEM projects. Thanks to a donation from David Wilson Homes, they were able to purchase a Sphero RVR which will enable the cadets to take part in coding activities. With the purchase of two Raspberry Pi kits in the coming months they will also
be getting to grips with learning to code and programming their robots
During 2023 the cadets spent several parade nights building a hovercraft, learning about the physics of lift in addition to the practical skills involved in building a working leaf blower powered hovercraft.
64 CADET REVIEW SPRING 2024
252(Bridlington) Squadron Go International
During September OC 252 Squadron enrolled two new members into
the organisation, Cadets Thomas Ragsdell and Diana Averianova. Cadet Averianova is a Ukrainian refugee who now resides in Bridlington with
her mother Zoriana, until it is safe to return to Ukraine. Diana attends the local Headlands School and decided that she would join the Air Cadets after talking to some of her classmates. She is looking forward to all the opportunities that are on offer within the Corps and cannot wait until she is old enough to fly, she enjoys the Squadron Flight Sim and is hoping to attend the Aviation Centre with the squadron too. Cadet Ragsdell has followed his older brother into the cadets and is also looking forward to all the activities on offer.

Squadron Visit
Local RNLI Station
The Squadron visited the local Lifeboat
Station at South Landing, Flamborough on
18 September 2023. The visit started with a briefing by Helmsman Matthew Emmerson and Trainee Crewman George Emmerson.
The cadets were then given a talk on the RNLI operations and the history of the Flamborough Station. Cadet Sgt Josh Owen was persuaded
to model the RNLI Rescue Uniform. The cadets were also informed by George Emmerson on the various techniques used when rescuing from the semi-inflatable lifeboat and how they recover the boat in readiness for the next task.
They were then taken into the Lifeboat garage where they were shown around The Elizabeth Jane Palmer Lifeboat. The Helmsman then
set a quiz for the cadets which covered the information from the visit which was won by Cadet Cpl Matthew Ragsdell who was presented with a few trinkets from the RNLI Shop.
