FULLY QUALIFIED LEADER
By Civilian Instructor Christopher ‘Woody’ Wood
I am delighted to share some exciting news with you all – I have recently passed the Mountain Training Association’s Hill & Moorland Leader and Camping Leader assessments, opening up new opportunities for cadets from 2222 (Brigg) Squadron and other squadrons in the Wing, to embark on unforgettable adventures.
The Hill & Moorland Leader qualification equips me with the skills and knowledge needed to lead groups in challenging and varied terrain, fostering a sense of adventure and self-reliance among
our cadets. Additionally, the Camping Leader certification enables me to organize and oversee camping experiences, providing our young explorers with the chance to connect with nature and develop valuable outdoor skills.
With these certifications in hand, I am eager to take our cadets on expeditions that go beyond the boundaries of our familiar surroundings. Whether it's navigating through picturesque landscapes, setting up camp under the stars, or facing the challenges of the great outdoors, these experiences will undoubtedly contribute to their personal and leadership development.
Expeditions are not merely about traversing landscapes; they are about building resilience, teamwork, and self-confidence. The skills learned in the field are transferable to various aspects of life, reinforcing the values of discipline, adaptability, and determination – qualities that are at the core of the Air Cadet experience.
As we look ahead, I am enthusiastic about assisting in the planning of various levels of DofE expeditions which will leave a lasting impact on our cadets. From day hikes to multi-day treks, each adventure will be tailored to provide a unique blend of excitement, education, and camaraderie. These expeditions will not only challenge our cadets physically but also foster a deep appreciation for the natural world and instil a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
I extend my gratitude to the squadron for
their unwavering support
and encouragement
throughout this journey. Also, to my Wing DofE and Adventure Training Officers, Flight Lieutenants Charlotte Bridges and Steve Bean, who offered invaluable learning opportunities and advice during my consolidation period when running
a couple of Bronze DofE Practice & Qualifier Expedition weekends. It is the collaborative spirit of our community that makes such achievements possible. I am excited to work together with
the Wing Team again to create memorable experiences for our cadets, guiding them towards new horizons and helping them soar to greater heights.
Here’s to an exciting and adventure filled 2024!!! 66 CADET REVIEW SPRING 2024
