A GLANCE AT THE PAST
Kettering area, which included Islip (ISBN 978-1-907094-04-0). I believe this is available to borrow from the library. Two pictures of the site at work are shown, the first taken in about 1905 (opposite page) and the second about 1950 (above).
The railway line between Kettering and Huntingdon ran parallel with the connecting line from the furnaces to the LNWR (Northampton to Peterborough) line where they joined, as shown on the plan (opposite page) which originally dates from 1869.
In 2007 John Roe Antiques occupied the
old railway sheds as shown above (Gordon Borrett Archive). The other small picture (left) shows the track bed one of the old narrow-gauge railway tracks which I found off Drayton Road in Lowick during 2020.
Finally, the map below shows some of the narrow-gauge lines, quarries and pits that were once in this very industrialised area.
