42 ENGINEER REGIMENT (GEOGRAPHIC)

This will be my final entry for MBS that will reflect on time spent with 42 Engr Regt, a niche unit which I have been honoured to serve. There are many highlights, however I would have to say the top 3 are, being victorious in the Sapper Games 2019, which saw two historical firsts, hosting and winning the prestigious competition. Reducing the numbers of those on level 1 and 2 PT from 52 PAX to mid-teens and finally, the Regiments achievements in BAWF. Due to the pandemic the Regiment has only participated in one full season, which saw the male team, captained by yours truly win the 2019 Midlands league and both male master and female teams qualify for the finals. At the finals the female and master teams had podium finishes, I was amazed at this achievement from a relatively small unit, that has continuous operational commitments throughout the year.
I have the privilege of being the UK Midlands BAWF Secretary, which saw the start of the 19/20 season with more teams entering than before. This seems to be the common theme with BAWF, it keeps growing. We managed to squeeze in a league event and a partner’s throwdown competition prior to the pandemic
The BAWF community now eagerly awaits the BAWF Open, which along with other committee members will be judged online.
Unfortunately, the Regiment had to say goodbye to SIO Marty Haniver in Oct 20. He finally decided that after 25 years as an SIO it was time to retire. I had the fortune to serve with Marty at ATR(B) between Jan 10 & Sep 12 when I was an AAPTI. To work with him again at 42 ER as the RAPTCI was a pleasure and I couldn’t have asked for anything more from my right-hand man. Marty, may this next chapter of life be filled with happiness and endless time to do the things you love!
