Your Society Needs Your Support
Following the retirement of Steve Clements, the long-standing Regional Representative for the South East, we are seeking volunteers to form a team that will work to promote the interests of allotment growing and the Society in the Region. There are several committee roles available; to register your interest, please contact natsoc@nsalg.org.uk and we will get back in touch.
South East NAS Allotments Seminar - opportunities for the future
We would like to invite NAS members in the South East to an Allotments Seminar, to be held in late April 2019 in a central location in the region. We are keen to hear from you about topics that you would like to discuss, and suggestions for speakers. The agenda will also include the creation of a formal structure in the region, something that is necessary for information and finance to flow back in to the region and feedback to go up to HQ. Please check out
the website for further details www.nsalg.org.uk/about-us/regional- information.

Seminar - opportunities
for the future
Members in the South West joined together in October to listen to representatives from the West Midlands Region talk about how their Region works, have a look at fundraising and aspects of Charles Dowding's no-dig gardening. We went on to discuss aspects of creating a formal structure in the region, something that is necessary for information and finance to flow back in to the region and feedback to go up to HQ. The people present in the room did appreciate that this would be beneficial for the region but had reservations about their capacity to volunteer on a regional panel.
They were, however, happy to take the issue back to their members.
Could you help to promote allotments in the South West?
The Regional Panel members do not need to be members of an allotment committee, as long as they are paid up affiliate members of the National Allotment Society.
We would like to ask members who did not attend the day to consider the following proposal:
We have a digital regional panel that communicates via Skype https://www.skype.com/en/features/group-video-chat/ or another video conferencing solution. This would be a set of officers who talk after the NAS management board meetings
in order to receive feedback from those meetings and discuss issues that they would like the Regional Rep to take to the next meeting. Ideally, they would be based in different counties. They would be responsible for handling the region’s finances, disseminating information to the Regional members and would also organise the Regional AGM once a year.
We have County Allotment Champions in the 5 counties
of the Region. There could be more than one champion in each region and they would organise local seminars and workshops/show stands/promotions and feed back to the regional panel. They would be able to claim expenses for their activities from the Regional Panel (in line with the NAS rules) and come together once a year for the AGM.
Please email diane@nsalg.org.uk if you feel that you would have the time to help support the Region or have any other comments/suggestions. A big thank you to the members in Devon who have offered to help; we are very hopeful of getting a good team together.
