The 99th Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association Parade was held on a glorious sunny morning. There was an excellent turnout from both the serv- ing Regiment and Association, it is always a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and share a story or two, it really is alarming how quickly this annual event seems to come around each year.
A smart contingent of Association mem- bers and serving Regiment made its way from the Broadwalk to the Bandstand under the command of The Colonel of the Regiment Brigadier H A Watson MBE with the HRH Prince Edward taking the salute.
After so much enthusiastic singing throughout the church service those on parade were in need of some liquid refresh- ment and so most dispersed to the Paxtons Head as others headed to the Cavalry and Guards Club where they enjoyed a wonder- ful lunch.
For many the Parade is the highlight of their year, memories re-lived are re-told for the thousandth time, I would encourage
everyone to try to attend if they possibly can and I look forward to seeing another

HRH Camilla the Queen Consort opened the 94th Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 10th November 2022.
The annual event, which marks the start of the nation’s Remembrance commemora- tions, has been held every year since 1928, again this year there was reduced attend- ance but the Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier H A Watson MBE was allocated
a head of plot pass and was able to meet with the Queen Consort as she passed the Regimental and Corps plots.
Given the events in Ukraine it was thought provoking to hear the words of the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle who said:
‘For the 94th time at the Field of Remembrance we meet again to remember those who gave their lives in the conflicts of our time, that we might enjoy freedom and peace.
At the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of 1918, the First World War ended: that date, that time, have become a symbolic moment on which to pause in silent remembrance and gratitude. With full hearts at this, our Field of Remembrance, let us pray for the peace of the whole world.’
It was also wonderful to see the current Commanding Officer, Lt Col Harris and the RSM WO1 Richardson, some familiar faces of the Association and IP’s Geordie Collins and David Lines both resplendent in their scarlet tunics and tricorn hats. We also saw Colin Elwell Esq who was attend- ing the event with the QOY and it was great to see Major Mattie Straker that morning too who we managed to persuade to come to the Sahagun gathering in December.

Unfortunately, we did not have time for the traditional refreshments this year after the event because of the rush to attend the Trustee’s meeting, however we will endeavour to rectify this in 2023, when the opening of the Field of Remembrance will occur 9th November, should you require tickets please contact HHQ closer to the time.
