It’s good to get COVID out of the way and start getting back to normal.
Normalisation started with the annual Smoker event, run by Steve Fretwell and his team. The team set up camp in South Yorkshire on a small farm at Cawthorn. On the Saturday there was a fish and chip van to the pleasure of a lot of hungry ex squad- dies. Then the ice cream van came down. Over the weekend there was endless sto- ries told and plenty of alcohol was washed down. The Smoker is getting bigger every year and is a great success each time.
The annual reunion was just around the corner on the first weekend in October. It started with the annual Golf Tournament at Silkstone Golf Course, on the Friday.
Then Friday night in the bar at the Holiday Inn. There was a raffle which helped to pay for the buffet of pie, peas, chips and a fantastic curry. The bar was attended by around 100 people at the hotel at a reduced price.
Saturday saw a lot of members turning up throughout the day. The bar being the first port of call. Catching up with lots of stories and handshakes.
The Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Sarah- Jane Tattersall turned up about 18:45hrs and was escorted into the Dining Room. The dinner started at 19:30hrs. We also had the pleasure of 2IC of the Regiment Major L Dodington.
After dinner we had a happy hour put on for us by the hotel, which also enabled

those from the main bar to join in on the fun. We also held a raffle which helped to pay for the weekend. On starting the raf- fle we called on the mayor of Barnsley to pull the first ticket. Then she took over the
microphone and promptly did the rest of the raffle. The Main prize was won by Karl Reedman.
It was a great evening, and I am sure that everybody enjoyed their weekend. The Mayor of Barnsley, Sarah-Jane stayed the whole evening and danced with everybody.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the 2023 reunion.
